Default Alternator problems

Ok so i thought my alternator was bad so i replaced it but when i did the little wire that plugs into the alternator broke, i just figured it was to the gauge so i just ut the new alternator in and figured i'd fix it when i had more time... well after replacing it my gauge reads fine but the alternator is not charging, so can someone tell me what this wire is to and could it be the reasn the new alternator is not charging

The wire in the connector is from the ECM. It's the signal to the alternator telling it to charge. Without it the alternator doesn't know to kick on.
