Default Monsoon's and MP3

I'm trying to find out if the newer Monsoon head units play MP3's. I figure you guys would know. I would like to keep the stock look but have MP3 capability.

The Monsoon headunit in the F-Body does not play MP3s to my knowledge.

You can convert the CD-Changer port into RCA AUX-IN using a GM9-AUX (available here: www.myradiostore.com and other places) and connect any auxilary device with RCA-OUT. Pressing the "CD/Play" button on the Monsoon headunit will swap between the headunit's cd player, the factory cd changer, and the new aux device.

the factory monsoon can only control 2 aux imputs if it is a 00 or newer, so its either aux in or cd changer not both

The situation you just described only has two inputs.

The GM9-AUX has a pass-through to allow the retention of the factory CD-Changer.

Its the 99 and earlier that have an issue with multiple inputs.

UPDATE:

I just noticed that jkichline has a 1995, so I dont think this will work.
According to PIE, the GM9-AUX only works with 1996-2002 Firebirds.

I'd recommend getting a 2001+ headunit if you want to keep the factory appearance. It should be a straight-forward swap, but I'd look around here (LS1Tech) for confirmation before shelling out any dough.

Phoenix57 is correct (well, almost) - the early model head units could not control more than one external auxiliary device - but the changeover year was 01 rather than 00. Up to and including the 00 model year you would have to disconnect the factory CD changer when using a GM9-AUX to connect another device such as an MP3 player (i.e. you couldn't use the pass-thru in the GM9-AUX because both the changer and the auxiliary device would both play at the same time). The 01 and 02 models could connect the factory changer to the pass-thru port and use the CD/Play or CD/AUX button on the HU to switch between the external devices.

OK. The only way to do it is to, first, have a Monsoon 00 or 01 or newer. Even if you did, you still have to hook up an external MP3 player. Do you know of any aftermarket head units that can play MP3 and work with the steering wheel controls?

Read the FAQ Sticky:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/wiring-stereo-electronics/303776-frequently-asked-questions.html

Any aftermarket headunit with an IR remote can be made to work with the steering wheel controls using a PAC SWI-X.

To install an aftermarket headunit, you just need the appropriate wiring harness and mounting kit.
