Since the surround speakers ought to still be in descent shape, I would buy some nice subs, box and an amp to push them. Simple and still sound awesome.

Hit eBay and find one dealer that has Clarion DXZ745MP or similar models, $250 or so. Then a Infinity 5 channel amp for about $250, set of Alpine components for the front, $95. Pair of Alpine 6.5" for rear, $80. One Solobaric 12" and a box to put it in the cargo area, $500 or so... that would be about $1200 total without install.

Be the center of attention. Get an under the dash mounted record player with a hidden 8 track in the glove box (so no one will steal it) and some 8 ohm duel cone roadmaster speakers that you just lay on the side in the rear hatch. No seriously, if you have that much money to spend why don't you visit a number of local car audio shops and see what they have done. You would be surprised at what they will tell you if they think you are going to spend money. Shux, they may even be honest and do the job for exactly $1200 if you tell them that is what you have !

Good Luck!
