I have had Alpine and JL Audio. Go with the JL's if you want the absolue best sound quality. Go with the Alpines if you just want something to listen to that is better than stock.

You can get the alpines dirt cheap at times. V12 5 channels (50x4 + 150x1) go for well under $100 often.
I've gotten two of them for under 100 each shipped, and am happy as a pig in **** with them. Good honest output and pretty efficient.
Flexible crossovers, both run in closed areas and never shut down. Only thing that's not good is the sub channel can't run 2 ohms.
SQ wise I would consider kicker and alpine equivalent. They are commoner level quality.
JL is really on a different level, better dynamic headroom, generally higher quality. But you'll also pay for it.
