Default Front speaker help

my front speakers are stock monsoons and aren't all that great, the driver side is going bad. I went out to buy some pioneer 2-ways that were advertised to be "GM oversize compatible" but I found my brother could get nicer kicker speakers for the same price through work, so I got those.

Well I found they don't have support for the GM oversize

I was just going to use a piece of sheet metal and basically make a screw extension bracket to make it fit (and being behind the grill it won't be noticeable) but I want to ask here to see if there are any other ideas before I do that.

BTW, I don't really notice a sound difference between the kickers and pioneers, guess I should have gone for the pioneers

MDF speaker adapter would work. That's what some guys use plus it gives a bit better mounting surface...more rigid structure. Plus they are fairly easy to make!!
