Default is there a 5v wire in the harness?

I need to power up a 4-port usb hub and it takes 5v, is there a wire in the harness that outputs 5v?

I can't answer your question on if there is a 5v wire you can use, there's a couple guys on here that know more about the wiring than anyone should that might chime in. Anyway, if there's not, maybe you could just tap into a 12 volt source and throw in a 7 ohm resistor.

a voltage regulator would be a much better idea then a resistor

huh?? ...take some more classes before you try to give ckt advice

pentavolvo is correct - use a voltage regulator..

one of the more common 12V:5V regulators is the 7805 -- look into it, see if it fits your application.

^^^ Didn't you know that voltage and resistance are additive? You just take 12 volts and subtract 7 ohms to get 5 volts!

...oops, I thought that's how it worked...I could've swore it was something like that I either forgot a bunch of stuff or that physics class I took last year was retarded. Sorry, apparently I'm an idiot

Edit: I've been thinking about this, did I just forget to factor in the current, or is there way more to it than that? Either way, I'll let my wiring stop at car stereo's, doesn't get much simpler than that
