Awesome race: G8 vs SS My stock 2009 G8 GT vs a stock 2001 Camaro SS 6-speed.
My buddy and I were cruising home yesterday from the store when we got next to a black SS (driver only). He gunned it passed us so I did the same letting him know I was game. Due to traffic we had to cruise a few miles before the highway opened up and we got in 2 really good runs.
There was no one behind us so we were able to run from a dig. I honked it off and we both hit it. I took off and he spun a bit before being able to catch traction. Once we both got going neither of us was really pulling and it ended with me about 2 cars out front by 100-110 (wasn't looking at the speedo).
There was still no one behind us so we slowed again and he said, "you killed me on the launch." I suggested a 10 mph roll to even out the hit and because I wanted to see how the two cars matched up without him spinning. 3 honks again and we hit it. I pulled about a fender on him off the hit and then he very slowly crept back up with him getting me by about a fender at 100 mph or so.
We both pulled off the highway and into a gas station and gave each other compliments on the cars and the races. His was a beautiful black 2001 SS with only 13K miles on it, stock down to the filter. He told he that they were awesome races and a ton of fun. Very good runs and cool guy.
I'd always wondered how my car would run against a stock LS1 fbody after racing my brother's mild bolt-on 1994 Z28 a bunch. Against the 1994 I pull it good run a roll, but it's real close from a dig until the cars get up to higher speeds.
