WS6 vs. Z28 ..nothing special, but question inside.
So last night, after a couple bothced attempts to run a 3G RX7 (he was having tranny issues), I was asked to race a bone stock '02 Z28 M6. It was either that or a Z06.. I chose the the Z28 lol!
Anyways, around the area we were last night, there's nowhere to go off the hole, so off to a local wide highway we go and line em' up from a ~20mph 1st gear roll. I honk it off 3 times with the Z getting the traditional 'Hialeah 2.5 honk jump' (it's a Miami thing ) so he's out maybe half a car to a car on me in 1st, grab 2nd and I begin to creep back on him, throw 3rd and I finally catch and pass with 4th netting me a good car + lead on him by the time I let off after ringing out 4th.
Now the outcome of the race wasn't unexpected, but I don't know if it's just my imagination or those Z28's seem a good bit quicker than T/A's with all things equal? I know there is a weight difference (couple hundred lbs IIRC), but could that alone be it? Does anybody esle find Z's to be quicker than WS6's, particularly when stock?
Just a curious question I guess..

Well, if it was an '01 or '02, he would have had the advantage of an LS6 intake over you. There isn't that much of a weight difference though unless he had a stripper. If he didn't take the jump, you would have got him by more. Taking the jump is a pretty big advantage.

hey man, that guy is an awesome driver. he is a horrible " track" driver, but a hell of a street racer. he has been street racing for about 10 years and never got a ticket or anything at all. His z28 is indeed bone stock with cats and everything. he said he will come out after you when he gets his cat back, lid and asp crank pulley.. he claims that is all it will take to beat you.. we will see.. whatever u do, dont take your foot off the gas..he has the so called " driver mod"

he drove his friends " z06" with only a off rd x pipe, air intake, shifter and nittos and he pulled on 460rwhp cobras. there was not a single cobra that could touch him when he was behind the wheel. the owner of the z06 would stay neck to neck with 03 460rwhp cobras and the cobras would barely win up top, but when this guy gave the vette to him then it was all over. the z would beat them by 1/2 to 1 car length.
