Question oo ram air vs 01 z28

Last night 2 buddys of mine raced. The 01 z28 is bone stock, and the ram air has slp loudmouth, with slp lid and k&n filter, both automatics. the first race they went from a dig, and the z28 beat the ram air by 2 cars. Ok then they went from 20mph roll and the ram air hung with him till about 45-50mph and the z28 pulled him again buy 2 cars. Now my question is how is the bone stock z28 beating the ram air with some mods. And does the z28 not have a 273 gear in the autos. Any info would be great thanks guys!

I don't.

Well if you ignore that facts of driver error, engine conditon and wear and tear. There are still several other reasons which have the ability to influence the outcome.

Basically here's how I see a possibility.

Ram Air, is a marketing tool and adds no noticabe BHP.

The 01 car has the LS6 intake the 00 should not.

Is there a weight different between the 2 cars?

The SLP mods have not likely made a hugh difference to performance. It might sound like it has but it probably hasn't.

Also allowing for manufacturing tolerances the 01 might just be a little bit better than average and the00 not so. Or some sort of combination.

Well, SLP LM and LID should have given him at least 20whp. Considering that both cars are driven the same and they have about the same amount of miles, I'd expect that TA to pull no matter what.

10 might be more accurate.

Camaro is lighter and has ls6 intake. It should win over the T/A. Ram Air isnt worth **** maybe 5hp at 100mph.

I don't think so. somewhere around 15-20 would be more accurate.

I don't think that would win the race though. Find out what gears those cars have, otherwise we're all just speculating. A4 cars can either have 2.73s or 3.23s.

I am thinking gears on this one also, and z28's tend to be a little lighter than the ws6's

That WS6, if it is a REAL WS6, will have 3.23s, so the camaro would either be evenly matched gear wise, or at a disadvantage. I believe it is the 01 02 thing that is making the difference here, like the LS6 intake, etc, etc. Another thing is that all car's are NOT created equal

Lets not forget that the 01 and 02 F bodies have a 6.0 liter GM truck Cam and the LS6 intake.

good point. the intake improves the powerband measurably, so that could explain a slight pull on a stock LS1 car of an earlier year, but certainly not one as modded as the one mentioned.

Is your tune really that awful?
