Default '02 Firehawk vs '96 LT4 'Vette

A buddy of mine set up the race. We met at Arby's, ate some grub and headed out to run. There's a feeder road along side the interstate. The runs were from 3rd gear because traction is poor, when I layed into the throttle I would walk away one car length immediatley and slam 4th, pull maybe almost one more car at the end of 4th and when we get into 5th our cars would stay right where we shifted. We did this several times with same basic outcome.

His car has some bolt-ons, and mine has what's in the sig untuned running the stock rev limiter which doesn't help. His car ran better up top than I thought it would, cool guy, nice car,...dusted!

Nice run. The LT4 is a hell of a motor. They pull hard up top. They have a 6300 rpm factory red line.

How fast did you run top end? He was probably hanging so well on the top end because he was still pulling hard in 4th gear while you were in 5th gear. The LT4’s will run close to 140 mph in 4th .

Get your car tuned and I’ll bet you’ll put a lot more cars on him next time.

I was shifting @ 6k with 4.11 gears.

We ran up to about 135ish in different runs. I need to tune it, but I'm not done with the motor so I only have the Crane programmer with cam #4 set , but it doesn't let you raise the rev limiter.

That’s what I figured. He was still in 4th gear. If you had gone a little faster he would have had to shift into 5th and you would have started to pull on him again.

Anyway good kill and once you raise the rev limit and get a tune you should really be flying!

the LT4 is a monster motor. lol its underated.

the Lt4 will pull a Ls1 vette in 75% of all cases.. as most LT4's make 350-360 on motor... with some in the 370s range. even cases of 380-390 hp on motor. check it out on corvetteactioncenter.com in the model/tech info. LT4's are nice motors

Doesn't it have higher rev limiters allowed for every Cam # increase?

You also may want to check with VINCI hi-performance for a Software Update. I sent them my Vinci Tuner/Crane and they had it back to me within a week with the current software update.

sweet. Get your **** tuned,...for the cam.

...and to stand up for my LT4 dawg's....just remember, your LS1 has a cam, and other "mods'.....and the LT4 has "bolt-on's".

Just think if the LT4 had a cam....and another 40 hp.

yes...those cars are fast as ****. I grew up driving two LT4's. One stock collectors,..and one green modded(air lid, hypertech, airfoil,no rear mufflers,11" 315 ZR1's and flares. lowered ofcourse) but...point is, those two cars would walk my Cobra(at the time) and any LS1 vette or f-body that would roll along side us. Not to mention early RT-10 vipers. We even have an old VHS tape of us on highway 60 doing an indicated 187mph in 5th, then hit the rev limiter and go back down to 183mph, then shift to 6th, and cruise at that speed for several miles. This was like 9 or ten years ago.

Lt4's are no joke, possibly one of the most underated corvettes, ever.

Good job on your kill.

I called them a few months back, and they said it would raise the limiter by 200 rpm, but my tach still stutters around 6100. I didn't know there was an update, I'll call 'em. Thanks. I plan to tune it after I get ported heads, then sell the Crane tuner.

Well make sure you put your car back to stock when you sell it otherwise no one will be able to use it.

What do you mean by stutters? Is it like a flat spot when you get into gear?

Yeah, stock it and sell it.

By stuttering I mean that the tach wont go past 6100 rpm. It will bounce off the rev limiter..."stutters."
