Default strut tower torx head bolts?

I was installing my new front shocks today and naturally knowing my luck, every little thing was fighting me. So what shouldve been a two hour job turned into a 7 hour job left to be completed tomorrow. Between fighting stripped torx heads and a completely rounded out shock bolt that i speant hours chisling off, im going out guns blazing tomorrow.

My question is the two torx head bolts under the master cylinder, what are there thread sizes, both of mine stripped completely out and i'm not using them to reinstall. I want to replace them with a grade8 6point bolt so i can just use a standard wrench. I plan on putting in lowering springs soon and i dont want to fight the torx head again

Does it help to have the car up in the air while threading the screws or while the weight is on the wheels?

If you can try to get a new normal bolt head that's used for the passenger side and swap that in there, you can save yourself a lot of future headache with the POS torx bolts.

I went to home depot they have a little bolt match thing in the hardware section. There are several things to screw the bolt into to match the thread then a ruler to measure it. The change was worth its weight in gold

Careful.. matching isn't everything. You will want a similar grade bolt too

Grade 8 is for SAE bolts, the upper shock bolts are metric. The equivelant for that is grade 10.9, which you won't find in a parts store.

Just go to a junkyard and pull two of the regular bolts off another car, or get some brand new ones from GM. It's not that hard.

Problem is that the regular torx are horrible when it comes to servicing the shocks. Been running an 8.8 grade bolt for years, and it has been fine.
