Default Someone explain this about "sticky" calipers.

I have a pair of LS1 two piston calipers on the front of my 95 Z28. They are both powder coated so replacing them is a last resort.

The problem is, my driver side drags a bit and does not release nearly as well as the right side. The right side releases very well and the wheel can turn freely. I have replaced the seals in the sticky caliper and ensured that the pistons don't bind. Also it does not appear to be a brake line problem.

So my question is, why does this driver side caliper drag just a bit and can it be repaired? It seems to me that a caliper is a very simple thing so this should be able to be fixed.

Thanks

It could be several things, the most likely is an irregularity in the piston or cylinder. Moisture can get in the brake fluid and cause a small rust spot. Toll companies make a hone jut for this type of problem. If you have replaced your seals it sounds like you are comfortable working on the calipers. Take it apart and inspect it for and rust, galling or ridges on the cylinder and piston. You might be able to clean them up with a green pad or you might need to hone them or replace a piston.

Good luck

Yes I greased the pins, with grease and they are slicker than two eels in a bucket of grease screwing.

Still have factory style rubber hoses? Could the drivers side be collapsing internally? Does the car pull one way or the other when braking?

It has a LS1 brake hose but it is an OEM hose. Does not seem to pull. Might be worth considering SS hoses.
