Today i hit the brake while driving and the brake didn't hold till i stepped on the brake pedal hard. Scary sh**!

I continued driving like that but real slow, hazard lights on and on the far right depending on the hand brake if the brakes completely failed.
But basically, the brakes held thought the journey but only when i depressed the pedal all the way down. Like if normal brakes started to hold after %10 pedal depression. Then my brakes are holding at %85 pedal depression, rendering the %75 of the brake pedal depression distance useless...like nothing happens until there is only an inch or so before the pedal hits the floor.

Any idea what the problem is? Brake fluid is full.

Also, this might not be related cz its been going on for a while and this problem started today but sometimes while parked, car running and windows up (like it is quiet in the cockpit), i can hear a very faint hissing noise that sounds like it is coming from somewhere around the pedals. The noise would instantly go away as soon as i touch the brake pedal. Its a hissing sound like a vacuum leak or a punctured tire.

Thanks in advance guys!

Oh yeah: 04 GTO

Sounds like a master cylinder failure. Replace and bleed the whole system, not a hard job to do.

Bleed the brakes, same thing.
There's plenty video's on YouTube on how to bleed/flush the brake system, if you plan on doing it yourself. Furthermore you should be able to find more exact info for your car on bleeding the brakes on one of the GTO forums.

Here's how to do it on a 02 LS1 Camaro/firebird, so it'll it might be slightly different.

Sounds like a loss of fluid possibly.
