Are Kenney Brown Double Diamond SFC's overrated?

I think so, they are made with several pieces of rather small tubing (and yes, I have seen them in person). We discussed them at great length somewhere (here or the now MIA LS1.com). I went with SLP's since they use rather substantial tubing for reinforcement. And, the SLP's make a great place to jack up your car.
That's just my opinion, others may not agree.

The Double Diamond and SLP are probably overrated and as stated above, cutting would most likely be required to fit a y-pipe. If your looking for something that makes the car more solid and tucks up nice, check out the spohn tubular sfc's. They are strong and lighter than the ones above.

I've seen several pics of them bent at mounting points, although I don't have them saved, I remember the "pad" being bent pretty bad.
I'd run a 2pt tubular setup, or maybe UMI's new 3pt if I felt the need for 3pt.

I have them and love them. I had them installed as soon as I bought the car new so I couldn't really notice a huge difference in stiffness. The shop that installed mine installs all types and recommend KBDD's. The only complaint is that the zinc coating doesn't hold paint very well. I had to POR-15 mine then repaint them. Don't understand where any Y pipe issues are with these, maybe SLP's....
