Default Quick and easy brake caliper question??

I recently performed a brake job on my Trans Am and I was playing around with one of the calipers because I noticed that one of the pistons didn't come out when I removed the caliper. I then proceeded to have someone press the brake pedal to push the pistons out and still only one of them would extend out. After a little elbow grease I managed to get it come out; however, after I compressed them both back in, only the one would come out again. I also noticed the rubber boot had a small hole in it.

My question is, is it normal for only one of the pistons to come out when the brake pedal is pressed?

Sounds like a silly question because I would believe that they should both come out equally when the brake is pressed, but I thought I would ask before I get a new caliper.
