Car won't stay running after initial start up ?
Ok so I dropped my ls2 in my 01 SS. Problem is the car will not stay running after we fire it up. We have to spray starter fluid in the tb and it will run for a few seconds then shut off. Fuel pump is working. The car has been sitting for about a year, we drained the fuel and added new fuel w/o any luck. As always your opinions and suggestions are greatly appreciated thanx

dry kill I think you might be on to something. This did come to my mind too b/c alot of the dash lights are on and it won't hold a charge, we're having to keep jumper cables and another vehicile hooked to it. I have an extra alt and will swap out tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks for the tip

Even with a horribly bad alternator, a car can run for even a little bit. If it will only run with starter fluid, sounds like it's not getting enough or any fuel. It could also be running lean because of an intake leak of some sort.
Also, I wouldn't trust any lights on yet if you can't get it to idle on it's own.

Oh yeah. I work on cars with intake leaks all the time, but occationally, I will run across one that will not run because there are so many leaks that it can't idle. Also, a shot in the dark... Check the idle control valve. If it's all gummed up, pull it off and cap the hole and see what the car does then.

does the pcm match the reluctor ring you have on the crank if it doesnt the car wont fire, just a thought, i noticed you stated that you put a ls2 into a ls1, just wondering if you had the computer updated for it.
