Yes, it had front end damage, which is how it was $500. All has been extremely easy to fix. Thing will withstand some rev limiter burnouts too!

If I was to settle for anything not rwd V8, just to save on fuel, I think the old manual trans 2.2 ecotec cavalier would be my choice. They can be had cheap and those little motors are very sound.

Otherwise, I don't know who has what that takes my abuse. They are all turds till you get to the turbo Mazda and what not. Those probably would cost too much.

As much as I see 6 speed 4th gens get 26+ MPG from what folks say here, I'd get a camaro and use that. Can be had for 4k.

I love the ecotec motors, it would definitely be my daily if I was looking for mpg. The SRT-4 neons are pretty quick/cheap, if you can stand driving a dodge product.

I've never seen 26mpg average out of ANY of my sports cars. Both my LT1 and LS1 M6 4th gens got 21. Ditto to my M6 92 Vette. Pure highway on my LS1 was only 23.

Yea, 21-26 is what iver seen people claim with 4th gens. So depends on the tune I guess.

My buddy sent me a average MPG photo in it procharged Vette of 42 MPG.... Built 427 and a F1. Told home that **** was broken. Lol

As someone who owned a cavalier that blew up because it didn't know it was low on coolant I strongly disagree.

Because you had one with an idiot light? Because you didn't see the gauge? Or was there just the fact that **** happens? Show me a car that has not failed because of these reasons and I'll show you a unicorn. Plenty of those cars never have issues and just because you did doesn't mean they are all not worth a damn. I've worked on allot of vehicles, and seem them all take a dump at some point, sorry you had one bad experience.

And if by chance it was not an ecotec, those were junk from my experience. Not all cavaliers were and they didn't start till 2002 if memory serves right with the ecotec line.

Twas a 2002 150,000km.... No light... Was not showing to be overheating... Because the engine was hot my defrost was still warm so I didn't know until it died. I have known 4 different people with the ecotec engine in sunfires and cavaliers. If you are going to go with it opt for the 2.4. I owned a 2008 2.2 ecotec that wasn't that great either constant fixes with 40000km on it. I also owned a 2006.. was a 2.4 and the only problem it ever gave me after 100,000 km was the retard who rear ended me at a stop light.

Then again what can you expect from cars that come for 500$

I always suspected the tune on my LS1. Both of the LT1's were on the stock tunes, but they were both speed density/batch fire.

That's odd. I sell a lot of ecotec based vehicles off from my lot and they all wind up with low coolant for the same damned reason. The overflow bottle cap is the radiator cap and it's a complete rat bastard to screw back on tight. Every single one was at least three turns from being sealed, or cross threaded. Crank them down correctly and viola. All of them had the low coolant lights though.

By the time mine made me aware my cam gear had already disappeared and I had shut the car off due to the noise it was making lol.

My 00 SS used to knock down 26-28mpg highway stock on 87 octane. Even got 30 mpg once driving across eastern New Mexico with 86. That was doing 120mph for a while too. It didn't get low 20's mpg until it was cammed. Still got low 20s mpg hwy with a 408 and 3.89 gears.
I've even gotten 24 mpy hwy in my wife's m6 G8 GXP driving across east TX.

Does it have to be a car? I used to have an 03 S10 with a 4 banger and a manual trans. With the 4.10s it came with I still got 32mpg highway with only a drop and better tires. An extended cab would definitely give you a little more room at the expense of a little more weight.

Yea, does it? You can pick up an old Jeep Cherokee for cheap, and the 4.0 HO engines take a hell of a beating.
