Update on San Antonio Raceway
One of my employees is a close friend of Lain, the man that's supposed to purchase the track. He owns the Cycle Ranch Pro motocross track here in South Texas. Its definitely looking good now.

The guy buying it bought cycle ranch when it was a dump and was going under. Its now the premier pro motocross track in Texas. He knows how to turn things around. I was told he has a 1 year lease to see if he can turn it around. At which time he can decide to purchase it outright. I am going to be he goes for big events again like NHRA and IHRA.

Yea, I agree. I plan to advertise at the track and help that way. The word that have is that he will sign a 1 year 300k lease on the track. If he feels that he can turn it around and make it work at the end of the year, he will stroke a check for it. If its not turning around he will walk away and be out 300k. So when this gets going, we need to get out there and run the cars to support it.

It would be nice if they would do whatever needs to be done to let fast cars at events like nitro jam etc run a full 1/4 mile. I was always disappointed to pay good money to go see some fast *** cars run at event's like that and then they limit them to a 1/8 mile for reasons above my knowledge.

Yea I was racing Top Dragster when they went to 1/8th mile. This is how I remember it all going down.
Todd had new asphalt installed on the track before the event. We had chunks pulling up after the 1/8 mile so it was getting dangerous. Todd had a company come out that Friday night and repave the entire track overnight and it was ready the next morning. Held up for a little bit and then started having more issues. So they dropped back to 1/8 mile for the rest of the event. I was told the Nitro guys liked this because it saved them parts and money.
After this event we still had track issues so for safety he went to 1/8 mile. And since it was now 1/8 mile he lost some big events and also had issues with IHRA for this and other reasons. He is not the easiest person to deal with due to being hard headed. So after losing these bigger events, the money went away and he stated he couldn't afford the insurance to run the full track. Shorter track means slower speeds and less risk for insurance companies.
Now for the hopeful new owner. I think he will spend the money needed to get it back to 1/4 mile. That's once he see's that he can make it work. I think he should go to the NHRA and try to get the track sanctioned by them and not the IHRA. IHRA doesn't have real races anymore since they were bought by the same people that own Ringling Bros circus and WWF I think. Its a show now, not really racing and no one really cares. He needs to get back to real racing. He would have to spend a bunch of money to get NHRA tough. New stands on the spectator side, new paved track and repave the parking lot at a minimum. No track will survive on Friday and Wednesday night tune sessions and local bracket racing on Saturday nights. You need fans in the bleachers. Everyone bitches about charging each person that goes into the track every night its open. But how do you think they afford to operate and also have payouts on Saturday nights if they don't charge people to get in. We need everyone to understand that it takes money to operate a race track and quit griping about a few bucks. Pay up and race safer than on the street. Support your track and it can and will stay open.
So my fingers are crossed.

Good deal. Crying and bitching about our local track was rapit until it closed and now I will give you two guesses at what everyone bitches about. Though there is a definit need for big events and fans in the stands, they also need a balance for the budgeted sportsman that keep the hobby going in the first place. Wednesday night bracket racing for a case of beer and a T-shirt would be nice.

If they want to take racing off the street and keep the staging lanes full of cars, they need to allow modern cars to go faster than 11.5 without roll bars. My fear of SAR going NHRA is if they hold firm to NHRA tech for street cars, they will lose half the field because people don't want to hack up their pimp street car to install roll cage, belts, fire suppression, scattershield, lug nut studs and driveshaft loop just to run what they're capable of stock.
I ran a 10.1 at 147mph at SAR in November in my 2013 C6. It was in full street trim. They just smiled and handed me my time slip. Drove it there, made a couple of passes, then made the two hour drive home. Could never do that at Royal Purple Raceway. They'd ban my car until I made proper safety additions which I'd never do to hack up my daily driver.

I doubt they get NHRA out there. And the opening on the 1st isn't a choice. The track is under contract from the county when it was allowed to be built. In the agreement it states that if the track ever fails to operate as a race facility for a 6 month period, then it would never be allowed to be a race track again. It would be anything but a track. The county never wanted it to be built in the first place. Well, June 1st is the absolute last day of that 6 month period. So we need to show up and support it the best we can.

I just looked at the facebook page and its all coming together. Looking great really. Only 5k away from their donation goal and they have tons of help getting it ready to go. I am going to advertise for my home building company I am just getting off the ground.
