Totalization Agreement With MEXICO!!! Wtf????
More Information on the Totalization Agreement with Mexico
Dear District Seven Neighbor:
Since my email this morning I have received a flood of calls to my office wanting to know more about the Totalization Agreement signed with Mexico. This treaty has not received much publicity, but Americans need to know about this critical issue. I greatly appreciate your allowing me to communicate with you electronically and will try not to overwhelm you with multiple emails, but from the responses I have received I thought it would be helpful if I provided you with more background on this treaty.
The United States-Mexico Social Security Totalization Agreement was signed in June 2004. If adopted by Congress, it would grant millions of illegal aliens access to our already-fragile Social Security system. This agreement has not been submitted to Congress, and despite my repeated inquiries it has not been made public. However, if passed it would pose a grave financial threat to the safety net that our families depend on. I have vowed to do everything in my power to defeat this agreement if it is submitted to Congress, and I am confident the House Republicans will vote overwhelmingly to reject it.
This week I authored a successful amendment in the Appropriations Committee to block any funding for implementing this agreement in the upcoming fiscal year, and I will fight vigorously to keep this provision in the final bill. Neil Cavuto of Fox News asked me to discuss this amendment and the totalization agreement on his show at 3 pm CDT today. As always, I am grateful for any ideas or feedback you have on this or any other issue facing Congress.
Sincerely,
John Culberson
