Default What would cause a backfire?

My Firehawk has decided it wants to backfire whenever Im decelerating in a lower gear, like if I get on it in first, and then let off. Its like a gunshot, Ive NEVER heard a backfire this loud, and have had some real crap rides. Ive got QTP up front and Flowmaster out back, not cats. Any ideas?

now how would you go about checking the timing on an LS1? I may be dumb, but last time I checked it was controlled by the computer.

Could be your divter valves. Do you still have the air system on the car. The valves are located on the left and right side over the exhaust. They are black and one end screws to a tube which is bolted to the exhaust and the other end has a black rubber hose to it.

could possibly be an exhaust leak? Mine was doing the same thing when i would get it high in the rpms and then let it go all the way back down. Come to find out i had an exhaust leak on the header to true dual flange.

I actually have whats left of the air system, I havent gotten around to removing it yet, the ends are plugged, but Ill check that. I havent had the car but for a few months. As for the exhaust leak, thats also a possibility, thanx, anything else you guys might think of?
