reformated compaq laptop, now no sound drivers
i've got a 2 month old compaq (i know, i know) laptop that has been giving me problems since day one. i wanted to get rid of that bullshit media center edition of xp, and was having some strange issues anyway, so i reformated it and stuck xp pro on there. it runs great now, but the sound drivers don't work. i saved all my drivers before reformatting, as well as tried to download new ones off the website, but i still have no sound. anyone got any ideas?

How have you tried to reload the new drivers?
ARe you sure that you've downloaded the CORRECT drivers for the sound on that laptop? Most of the time laptop manufactures have specific drivers that you have to grab from their website, instead of just generic drivers from the actual audio-chip maker.
Is the sound accessories being reconigzed in the Device Manager?

i put in the model number on the compaq website and it generated a list of drivers for that computer. i downloaded them all to a jump drive then installed them on the laptop, but nothing is working. my only idea now is that maybe i need a new copy of xp. the one i have is an older less than legal one that doesn't even have sp1 on it... any other ideas?
