I reach for:

Flex handle stubby ratchets (specifically the 3/8" one)

Wobble extension set (the shorty 3/8")

A 5/8" spark plug socket (any one will do)

And sometimes a 3/4" wrench to fit on the end of the spark plug socket (if I can't get the ratchet in there)

The swing handle ratchet wrenches were made for tight spots like that. They work great.

You can do 1-7 from above, but I find the best option is to get #8 from below on a car that still has A/C.

Default

short flex head socket wrench
a few diferent size extentions
Spark plug socket

I do all 8 from above. for #8,c just neel on the battery and lean over the back of the engine. Kind of uncomfortable, but easy to do.
