Default LS3 starter issue.

Hello all,

My LS3's starter is giving me some problems...

Here is a video of what it's doing.

Here is a link to the starter that I purchased.

When I first swapped in the motor it cranked fine the first time and then it started doing this. I noticed the starter gear was not retracting so I installed a couple of washers and it cranked fine for a few weeks and started doing this again. Once again the starter gear is not retracting. I removed the washers today and reinstalled the starter and it started twice. Now it's doing the same thing again...

Anyone have an idea of what it could be? The starter is only a few weeks old.

First thing I would do is test the battery, make sure that it has no dead cells and how many cca it puts out. Then I would test to see if you have enough voltage at the starter solenoid, a good engine/chassis ground, followed by a voltage drop test on both B+ to solenoid and B- to case ground sides of the starter if it all passes then I would suspect a bad starter. These test can be done within 1 hour instead of guessing and having people guess for you which could be costly and a waste of time.

sounds like a mis aligned pinion gear on the starter motor... are you using oem starter bolts? stock flywheel/flexplate?
