Default What would you offer for this car?

1999 Camaro SS
Black on black
M6
110k
Excellent condition
100% stock

Owner is asking $8700.
KBB shows $7300.

I'd say that most owners in my area are asking 9k+ for ls1 cars right now, despite KBB being alot lower. It seems that in the south there are better deals, but around here people are asking alot.

I offerred the guy $8000 and he didn't take it. He says it is in showroom condition and thinks he can get more for it. It is a 2 owner car, with the current owner having it less than a month(wants to trade for an older muscle car, her is an older guy that is not comfortable getting in and out of it regularly). So basically it had one owner until March; no accidents, etc.

You guys think it'd be worth offering $8500 and calling it a day? I doubt he wouldn't take it, the question whether I should pay that much for the car.

Thoughts?

Sounds like he is trying to 'flip it'. I also have never seen a 'showroom' car with 110,000 miles on it no matter how meticulous the owner was. I have 23,000 miles on my T/A and no matter how much detailing I do with the car, it NOT showroom compared to a 2,000 miles example but it is excellent. Is that '99 car truly even excellent?? I bet it needs something, anything from tires, brakes, you name it. Is the clutch original? How's the tranny? All the fluids changed? There are exceptions but almost every car I have ever seen needs something once past the 100k miles mark. Having said that, if you pay $8,500 for it and it needs $1,500 in repairs, maintenance or whatever, over the next year or two, you will have over $10,000 invested in a 12 or 13 year old used car with well over 100,000 miles. You will be fortunate to get $7,000 for it. If you plan on paying that much it better be checked out thoroughly. Be careful and good luck!
I would probably feel better if you were dealing with the original one owner. I may pay close to the full amount then because he could satisfy every question where this 'seller' may not know squat or improvise.

I paid $6,000 for a 2000 with 108,000 miles on it just a few weeks ago. Of course that is over here in Iowa. The car also needs a little bit of paint work. However, something to compare it to.

Thanks for the input guys. The car does have a new clutch and flywheel. I'm going to check it out and if it is truly in great shape, I plan on buying it. Compared to the prices I see in Texas and the midwest, I feel like I'm paying too much. But compared to what people are asking around here I feel like it is an average deal. I'll keep you posted.

Bone stock and 110k miles, I wouldn't pay over 5 or 6k even if it was mint... You can get one with 30-40k miles for a few thousand more or you can get a well built one with that many miles on the chasis and fresh Trans/Engine for 8-9k. Just wait it out and the right deal will come around. Hell - for $5-5.5k more, you can get a 60k mile C5 FRC in great condition... Just my .02

I've found a few other options that are better price-wise. I do like the history of this particular car, but I'm gonna see if these other options are in good shape and work from there.
