Default Should I buy it? 1995 Firebird Formula

My friend is selling his 1995 Firebird Formula. The only problem is that the 3rd and 4th gear are "out". Im going to have to put a new transmission in it as my summer project.
But my question to you all is, what should i pay for it? Or should I look for something else to fix up?

This probably belongs in the 'What's It Worth' section but either way you need to provide some details about the car. Condition besides the tranny? Mileage? Clear title? What else does it need? How much is your friend asking?? The list of questions is endless. If you want an educated guess, details!!

I bought my 95 trans am that needed a trans for 1900. Had 100k on it, and it was clean as hell. I found a built 4l60e on craigslist for 550$. Average quote on rebuilding my old trans was around 1800$. I don't know the details about the car so it's kind of hard to give you a price for what you should pay.

I apologize for the lack of details! And I also did not see that section!
The car is in great shape with a clean title. There are some scratches in the roof that I will need to repaint, and the front bumper has some pealing to the paint. Those are easy fixes though! I do not remember the mileage right now, but it is not very high. The interior looks good also.
The motor seems to be fine but I am sure that I will have to do some work with it. It is an automatic. He is asking around $800.
