Thinking about selling my 2000 Z28
As the title says, I've been toying with the idea of selling my 2000 Z28. It is bright rally red, automatic, about 49k miles on it. I am the second owner of the car (it had 36k when i bought it in 2002). I have taken really good care of it; garaged with car cover, cleaned after every cruise/outing, and waxed about once every 2 months.
It has the factory ground effects, cloth interior (charcoal), it is a "stripper" car so manual windows, no cruise control or traction control. It does have t-tops, rear defog, and the stock set of chrome 5 spokes.
It was completely stock when I bought it. I have since put on a SLP lid, 160 degree thermostat, and changed the rear gears from the stock 2.73s to a set of factory GM 3.23 gears. I still have every piece of the stock parts removed as well as a nice file of service records and literature for the car.
What I'm asking is, do you think I would be out of line to ask for about $12k to start with? Price would be negotiable of course. I will post some pictures of the car when I get home as I'm at work right now. Thanks guys!

Sounds like a wonderful well-cared for Z28 and certainly desireable to the right buyer. $12,000 is going to be too high unfortunately. You can ask that but it may scare people away before they ever call.. $10,000 would be absolute top $$. That may even be tough but it is within reason if the car is as nice as described with no needs or issues. GLWS!!

Thanks for the reply!! Yes, now that I thought about it, you're right that 12k would be way too much to start out asking. I was just trying to judge how much cushion I could put on it to actually get what I'd like to.

Yeah, that's the trouble with asking prices. You want negotiating room since everyone loves to dicker, but you don't want to price it so high that no one will call. $10,950 is a number that might work IMO. It's under that $11,000 psychological barrier yet well over the $10,000 mark to allow for negotiations. Depends what you must have for a price. That's always what matters.

Its a beautiful car !! Just as a referance I payed 10,500 for a SS convertible. I saw several on ebay lately and SS cars werent even selling for 11k. I hate to poop in anyones cheerios, I saw keep it and enjoy it since you have low miles =0)

No, it's good to have 'real world' pricing available but we must know the mileage of your SS and what SS cars weren't selling for $11,000. If the mileage is not under 50,000 miles, like the Z28 we are talking about, then pricing will naturally be different. Condition, the number of owners. It's all in the details.
