how rare are 383 lingenfelter factory installed 99 camaro convertables
I own a 99 Z28 convertible it has a factory installed Lingenfelter 440 hp 383 motor and 6 speed trans. with 36,000 miles how rare is it? The car was shipped from GM new to Lingenfelter then to the GM dealership it was purchased from for the customer to pick it up. I am the second owner, the car is well documented. What is it worth in near perfect condition?

i have an old 98 article about the lingenfelter aftermarket upgrade , it was kinda the hot package at the time if you could afford it. more hp than a berger. i think article is car & driver may 1998 "specialty file" lingenfelter ls1 camaro by john phillips. basically hand lpe keys and they added stroker forged steel crank (37 cubes), oliver billet steel connecting rods ; lunati forged pistons (10.8 compression) cam & cnc ported heads. borla exhaust , 3.5" aluminum driveshaft; these alterations are good for 430hp. this hawaiian client added front swaybar; 5 point harness, hurst shift linkage, 9" wheels , 17" michelin pilot tires , SFC, roll cage. good for zero - 60 in 4.4 & 12.8 - 115 1/4. cost was 21k car (z28 coupe) plus 17k engine upgrade plus extras $5600. well thats the gist of the article. cheers!

Your car may have been purchased "new" from a dealership with the Lingenfelter modifications already installed on the engine, but it was not, in no uncertain terms, a "factory installed" engine. Even the '97 and '98 LPE Hurst Firebirds did not receive their engines "factory installed", and those were certainly more "GM-Authorized" cars than yours.
I toured LPE back in the early '00s and they run a top-notch shop, no doubt. So having LPE mods under the hood is a GOOD thing, for sure.

As everyone else has stated above, this is not a "factory" installed engine, nor did GM itself directly contract this build as a factory offering.
Having said that, these sort of packages can definitely increase value to the right buyer. Not a lot of data points on value for something like this, probably roughly comparable to the GMMG stuff (though the base Z28 shell might hurt desirability in comparison); auction might be the best way to go.

Thanks for the info guys. Have done more research I believe the correct terminology according to Mecum Auctions. They referred to it as a Post Title Conversion car. Thanks Ken
