Default Polishing snowflakes?

I have always kinda wondered this. Say I want to strip the paint off my 16x8 snowflake rims down to the metal then use some polish to make them a chrome shine. I see some snowflakes are not painted and always kinda wondered if there was a writeup or how easy this is to do since I have all winter to do so.
