Default 1998 WS6 wheels

I have a 98 ws6 t/a with on 50,000 miles. The car is great looking however the original wheels look like they are peeling or something. I want to keep the car looking original, so does anyone have any ideas on how to fix them or what the issue is with these things?

Strip em, and polish them. They will look 100 times better. Do a search, youll find a few write ups, and pics. I stripped both my 00s, and my 02s, and they both look so much better now.

Kleen strip or any aircraft stripper that you can pick up at autozone or any auto supply store. Just put a nice thick coat of this on the wheels and wait about 15 minutes you will see it peeling the clear off. Rinse the wheel off with a hose and repeat the process one more time til all the clear is off. Then take a powerball mini and some aluminum polish and go to work. Polishing is going take the longest but the end result is worth it.

Do the tires need to be removed to avoid the stripper messing them up or will it wash off too?
