Default what inch tire for 4.30 gears

So I found a good offer on a used 9 inch. It has 4.30 gears tho and my tire is a 275/40/17 et street. Would I run out of gear with this gear and tire. If so what size tire and rim would I need.

going off your signature, you would not run out of gear, and the 26" tall tire would be fine.

You wouldn't hit any problems until you started trapping 123+ mph. and at that point you should opt for a taller tire. A 27" tall tire would get you up to about 130 mph, or even a 28" tall tire would get you to about a 136 mph trap (IIRC the shift point for an ms3 is like 6700 correct?)

A general rule of thumb is you want to run the tallest tire you can, with the most gear that you can. The taller tire gives you a bigger footprint (a 27x10.5 tire has a bigger contact patch, softer sidewall compared to the 26x10.5) than a shorter one. and then you try to match your gear with your mph/tire. I would say 4.30's would be great for you. Should you decide to do heads or spray it, switch to a 27" tall tire. Or say maybe you want to do both, go with a 28" (althought you might run out of gear with that setup, depending on how agressive you car runs).

There's an old saying "Don't fear the gear"

What rpm are you shifting at?

You might be able to get by on 26's.

LOL.. I just realized the rear end you are talking about is mine.

Yeah you should def. buy it! lol

per texas speed's site on the ms3 came, he should be shifting at 6800 rpms.

"2300-6800 RPM Power Band with a peak around 6400rpm;"

and if he is currently trapping 115 mph, he will be at 6400 rpms @ 115 mph. figure he will loose a little mph though going from a 4.10 to a 4.30.... if anything I would say more gear if you are staying with your current motor setup for awhile. lol.
