Default Tires for 17 x 11 zr1's

I am very annoyed at the very poor selection for street tires on the 17 x 11 zr1 wheels. I just recently purchased custom 17 x 11 zr1's for all 4 corners under the impression that they are the best platform to build on for good handling for an autox/street car. Now I find that no one makes tires for them? wth I want something like the dunlop star specs that I can get amazing performance without wearing out in 8k miles. I'm looking to get between 12-18,000 miles out of my tires. I was looking at the nto5 but am worried about tread life, I was also looking at the khumo ecasta xs but the straight line performance and wet traction make me nervous as well as their tread life. Why can't we get a decent tire like an re11 or an ad08... smh. I thought about nitto 555r's on all 4 corners. Do those dr's work well for pushing the limit in canyons and autox? I am willing to get nt05's if people can prove to me that they will last over 10,000 miles driving like I stole the car.

bump... anyone? Can at least somebody tell me about the nt05 and how long they lasted? My main concern is tread life. If I can get 12,000 miles I will be happy.

First in foremost the NT-555R and RII will have worse treadlife than the NT-05. I would imagine that the NT-05/Star Spec and such are a similar class of tires.

Sumitomo HTR-z 315/35-17s on the back of mine (and I know that's not one you mentioned), and they're just about completely bald after 8-9k miles. Probably 80% of that has been fairly easy miles too. I doubt you'll find a performance tire to last 12k miles if you're going to consistently "drive it like you stole it".

Note to the OP - this is a horrible tire....don't run it. the price might be appealing, but the performance and life suck.

Worst tire I've ever had. Not to mention the contact area on the 315 was about the same as most 275's, maybe even smaller. It's pointless when you have over an inch on each side that doesn't even make contact with the ground.

lol, no I was never considering Sumitomos xD. I don't mean I will spin the tires all the time or anything, (actually I don't plan on spinning them often at all) I just want to take corners firmly/slightly aggressive on the way to school and accelerate pretty good out of stop lights, not enough to spin but enough to be an ***.

Weird. I put a set of the Sumitomo's on my TT2's several years ago and I ran them for over 3 years, and over 35k miles on them and took them to the track several times. Now, that being said they never hooked up worth a crap but I got good street use out of them and still had life left in them when I sold the set. For the price I paid I got a very well manned street tire for street driving. If you plan to take them to the track they are junk. But IMO you shouldn't be driving on the street looking to race every person that pulls up next to you so I don't understand the need for flypaper tires to go to and from work. For as cheap as they are to get the first time around, and to replace compared to nitto's or another comparable brand I'd buy them again.

I have the regular Nitto 555's (not the 555r). They're holding up pretty well, much better for daily driving.

I have the Sumitomos in 315 on my car now (I bought it with them), rears are almost bald. It can get pretty slippery in the rain and they don't grip in general. Can't comment on tread life cause I bought the car a month ago.

The car will be my fair weather cruiser, no racing but I do go on cruises in the mountains where we push it hard. I'm thinking of buying the Nitto 555 next, I want something that'll give me at least 15-20k and do alright in the rain. They are only 10-15 bucks more per tire than the Sumitomos anyway- reviews make it seem like a no brainer.

I was also surprised at the selection for this size wheel, I might consider swapping to different sizes after my next set of tires wears out.

I like to canyon carve, not trying to race anyone. I live in a valley so hills are everywhere around me and I can go up to the canyons and have some fun. I need a tire that can grip on the weekends when I go up.

I like my NT-05's so far for that purpose. They have only been on about 2 months though.

ok cool. Thanks for all the help. Sounds like I am going to be getting nt05's. Hopefully they will last me at least a year. If not I might have to throw the stockers back on for daily driving

Wait, who offers NT05s in 315? I've only seen 555s.

Not sure what the differences are either haha.
