I have a 98 Trans Am and It's needing new back tires. I have 17x9.5 z06 wheels all around it right now with 275/40/17 tires on. I'm wanting to get 305/40 in the back but can't seem to find any and I don't think 315/40 would fit. Does anybody know of any brands who makes that size tire?(305/40/17) If not what's the biggest tire I can fit on and what brands. Thanks!

They don't make that size... you're looking for a 315/35-17. It's the same height as the 275/40-17. That second number is aspect ratio; so it's a percentage of the width. Which is why a 315/35 = 270/40 in height.

So a 315/35/17 is wider than 275/40 but the same height but would still fit on a 9.5 wide rim?

315 technically requires an 11 inch wide wheel (10.5 is isually not an isue). Only the Nitto NT-555R runs narrow enough to consider.

On a 9.5" wheel just stick with 275/40's.
