215/60r16 tires on a stock 16x8 wheel. A winter tire post
Hello all,
Winter is coming and i have decided to save a bit of money (up coming wedding) and daily drive my WS6 this winter. I had a BMW lease but it was up so i picked up some winter tires and a set of used 16x8 firebird wheels for the bird.
Doing this as a FYI for anyone looking for tires this season.
I went with the 215/60r16 over the 225/55/r16 for a few reasons. The set of tires i got which are the General Altimax Arctic from tire rack and the 215 was more than $100 less than the 225. Big savings right there. The 215 tread is only 10mm or about a half an inch smaller than that of the 225 which is actually better for winter driving.
The tires are just the tiniest bit stretched but not dangerous in any way. The sidewall still budge still extends past the rim lip.
Please see the pics to know what it looks like. a great option in my opinion.

The narrower the wheel the better. I'd rather do this on a 16x7 steel wheel or a 16x7.5 aftermarket aluminum wheel (both have been available in proper 4th gen backspacing - though if you go with the older LT1-era steel wheels I think you need a spacer for brake clearance, if I remember correctly), though 8" should be fine if that was the best deal or all that was available locally.
I did a 225/55 on a 16x7.5" with Blizzak WS60s as a winter configuration back when I had a 4th gen as a daily driver. That setup, plus 100lbs of gravel in the trunk and 1/2 tank or more of gas at all times, made the car unstoppable in Chicago winters. And it did better with the traction control turned off and common sense turned on.

I just made this post to be a way for people to see what 215s look like on a 16x8 and that it may be a better option over the more expensive 225s
