Default stick with 17's or go with light 15's with DR's???tire size guru's needed

Well i have 17x9.5'' TT2's on the back of my 71 Vega GT. well there are 245/45/17's squeezed on it well it seems that the tires might already have a rubbing issue but it might be the buldge of the tire that is rubbing because it is more of the inner part of the tire that is rubbing. well im wondering if i should try to run a wider tire or run a 15'' rim with a 245/60/15 ET street or something similar to that i like the look of the 17's but with 245/45/17's its hooking up alright but plans for more HP are soon to come and i dont want to be stuck with such narrow tires. if anyone has any suggestions, my friend is running KDWS i beleive on his GTO and he cant fit much wider either. but i have no idea what i should do. id really like to stick with my 17's.

First I'm not completely sure what a 71 Vega GT even looks like.

Your tire is already rubbing inside the wheelwell and you want to run an even wider tire? Just hammer inside the wheelwell till whatever size you want to fit fits. I'd recommend a 275/40/17 for a 17 x 9.5 wheel.
