Default Traction ?

What would provide more traction,

1. Sumitomo HTRZ - 315/35 17
2. Falken Azenis RT-615 - 275/40 17

On a full weight daily driven vehicle?

You only buying 2 rear tires?
I like having the same size so you can rotate them around.
I would take a look at tirerack for the traction rating.
Look at the Kumho MX there pretty cheap 130 a tire or so.

Good Luck

I understand the Falken are suppose to be better, BUT, with the increased width will the HTRZ actually be better?

i don't know much about falken but if you want traction stay as far away from sumitomo as possible. the sumitomo will spin at idle while stopped at a light. for a decent dd it is a decent choice because it is dirt cheap, but if you want performance look else where, like a dr perhaps. nitto, bfg, and i believe m/t now all make very nice dr that would suite you much better if it is traction you are after.

97blackz28,

So you think the HTRZ with the 315 width will worse that a superior tire with a 275 width?

don't worry about width so much. the most important thing in traction is the tire composition and the sidewall height. width looks cool, but does not really help as much as people seem to think. to anwser your question, yes a better tire in a 275 width will hook better than a sumitomo in a 315. in this case it will depend more on tire compound as a 315/35/17 and a 275/40/17 actually have about the same sidewall height.

if you really want to hook put a set of 255/50/16 drag radials on your stock 16's and believe it or not they will hook much better than a 315 sumitomo. when i say much i mean much, much, much better.
