For nearly 40 years, Borla has been in the business of er. With its performance exhaust systems, it makes cars sound louder, throatier, and better. Now, it’s doing what it does best with the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS.

Borla now produces 2.75-inch mid-pipes with and without Active Fuel Management (AFM) valves. According to the company, those valves “operate separately from the [dual mode] NPP valves in the mufflers and are designed to enhance backpressure and sound quality when the 6.2-liter LT1 engine engages its four-cylinder, low emissions mode.” The AFM setup is best for street cars. You might want the AFM-free configuration if you’re going to add a Borla mid-pipe to a race-prepped 2016 Camaro SS.

BORLA Touring resonator for mid-pipe

A touring resonator option for the mid-pipe is available if you want to tone down the sound generated by the rear-section mufflers Borla offers. Both the more-vocal-than-stock S-Type and the most sonically aggressive ATAK mufflers are compatible with ’16 Camaro SSs with or without the four-tip dual-mode (NPP) exhaust. Give them a listen in the video below.

Each T-304 stainless steel system for the 2016 Camaro SS is covered by Borla’s Million Mile Warranty. Those will eventually be joined by exhaust products for the V6 and turbo four-cylinder models, as well as long-tube headers and a three-inch header-back exhaust system for “competition or race use only” for the Camaro SS.

BORLA exhaust systems provide Camaro SS owners with a variety of sound options. The patented and race-bred ATAK muffler technology, for example, delivers the highest decibel level available in the street-legal BORLA lineup. It provides the most aggressive exhaust notes that are still acceptable for residential driving.

The BORLA S-Type exhaust option also delivers enhanced performance with a throaty, aggressive sound under acceleration but at a reduced volume level.

The BORLA ATAK and S-Type rear-section mufflers can be specified with or without Dual Mode-type valve technology. This is to ensure that Camaro owners who selected the Chevrolet factory NPP option can still enjoy their Dual Mode functionality even with a BORLA exhaust fitted.

Furthermore, Camaro SS owners can add the BORLA performance mid-pipe to the rear-section mufflers. The mid-pipe is available separately and eradicates the restrictions in the stock exhaust system, improving airflow and aiding performance, without increasing the sound output.

The mid-pipe is available with or without Active Fuel Management (AFM) valves. These operate separately from the NPP valves in the mufflers and are designed to enhance backpressure and sound quality when the 6.2-liter LT1 engine engages its four-cylinder, low emissions mode. For regular street driving, it is recommended that Camaro owners specify the BORLA performance mid-pipe with AFM valves, but racing applications may prefer to delete the AFM.

Giving Camaro owners even more opportunities to customize their car, BORLA offers a Touring resonator option for its mid-pipe. This part is designed to provide a milder growl from the ATAK or S-Type rear-section for owners who have specified the performance mid-pipe. The sound remains distinctively different from stock to let people know you mean business, yet is not as sporty as ATAK or S-Type.

Whatever combination of parts are chosen, the BORLA development team designed and engineered the Camaro SS exhausts to deliver enhanced performance without any annoying drone that is generally associated with aftermarket exhausts. Yet BORLA is able to deliver more horsepower and torque when you plant your right foot. There is also the added benefit of improved fuel economy at cruising speeds.

** Systems will soon be announced for the Camaro V6 and Camaro four-cylinder turbo

The 2016 Camaro products will be among the most important new releases from BORLA this year. “As a flagship application for BORLA Performance Industries, we take tremendous pride in our entire Camaro program,” said David Borla, VP of Sales & Marketing at BORLA. “We’re delighted to announce these first applications for the new 2016 Chevy Camaro SS, and we will have new exhaust products for the V6 and four-cylinder turbo models available soon.

“We’re always excited to add more systems to our product lines – especially for the Chevy Camaro. BORLA has been committed to American-built cars from the beginning and has exceptional knowledge of the Camaro brand. We’re confident that owners will enjoy the customizable options of our American-built systems, the performance gains and the variety of exhaust notes that are available for the 2016 Chevy Camaro.”

Since it was established almost 40 years ago, BORLA has been the pioneer and leading manufacturer of aerospace-grade T-304 stainless steel performance exhausts systems. As a result, its new products for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS are lighter than stock, which provides a degree of improved vehicle handling. Through lighter weight and improved gas flow, the performance of the vehicle will be noticeably better throughout the rev range. The greater efficiency of the design, and the lighter construction also helps to improve overall fuel consumption, when driven appropriately.

The use of aerospace-grade stainless steel provides lasting durability against rust and corrosion. In fact, BORLA is so confident in the quality of its products that everything is backed by its industry leading Million Mile Warranty. For more information, visit Million Mile Warranty

Furthermore, BORLA builds performance exhaust systems for a number of leading car manufacturers, including General Motors, Ford and Dodge. The same levels of OE quality is built into every BORLA exhaust to help ensure long-lasting performance with a distinctive and appealing sound.

After loving cars for years and getting a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Derek decided to get an associate degree in journalism. His networking put him in contact with the editor of the Austin-American Statesman newspaper, who hired him to write freelance about automotive culture and events in Austin, Texas in 2013. One particular story led to him getting a certificate for learning the foundations of road racing.

While watching TV with his parents one fateful evening, he saw a commercial that changed his life. In it, Jeep touted the Wrangler as the Texas Auto Writers Association's "SUV of Texas." Derek knew he had to join the organization if he was going to advance as an automotive writer. He joined the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) in 2014 and was fortunate to meet several nice people who connected him to the representatives of several automakers and the people who could give him access to press vehicles (the first one he ever got the keys to was a Lexus LX 570). He's now a regular at TAWA's two main events: the Texas Auto Roundup in the spring and the Texas Truck Rodeo in the fall.

Over the past several years, Derek has learned how to drive off-road in various four-wheel-drive SUVs (he even camped out for two nights in a Land Rover), and driven around various tracks in hot hatches, muscle cars, and exotics. Several of his pieces, including his article about the 2015 Ford F-150 being crowned TAWA's 2014 "Truck of Texas" and his review of the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, have won awards in TAWA's annual Excellence in Craft Competition. Last year, his JK Forum profile of Wagonmaster, a business that restores Jeep Wagoneers, won prizes in TAWA’s signature writing contest and its pickup- and SUV-focused Texas Truck Invitational.
