For the last few years, movie star Burt Reynolds hasn’t been in the best of financial situations. Well, it’s gotten so bad that the actor has had to start selling off his personal collection of art, movie memorabilia, and cars. Chief among those sold: a 1977 Pontiac “Bandit” Trans Am that went for a staggering $450,000.

Now here’s why that auction price is so astounding, the car isn’t even one of the movie cars. This specific Trans Am was used on the Smokey and the Bandit promotional tour after the movie came out. Although, it is essentially the same exact car as the one used in the movie.

After the promotional tour, the car was presented to Reynolds as a gift. As such, the original pre-auction estimate was in the $60,000 – $80,000 range. Suffice it to say that when the gavel banged, everyone was stunned at the final price.

Let’s just hope that this high priced Trans Am goes to helping the down and out icon get his house straight. But I’d like to know, would any of you have paid that much just for a car owned by Burt Reynolds?
