C8 Corvette Gets Twin-turbo Goodness via Hennessey Performance

By -

Chevy’s C8 Corvette is already cool but tuning companies will make it cooler.

As the C8 Corvette begins to trickle out into the open, everyone is getting a taste as to what it’s actually like. Reviewers are diving in to the car to see all it’s cool stuff. And we’re finally getting an updated outlook on its performance. Finally, we’re also seeing aftermarket companies starting to develop insane upgrades for the C8, and the future looks good for that type of stuff.

Per autoevolution, Hennessey Performance recently revealed their twin-turbo C8 prototype. In addition to boasting an incredible horsepower figure, their kit sounds absolutely intoxicating. And there’s promise of even more goodies in the coming months. Stock Corvette models are great, but tuners really add some crazy spices into the mix. If this latest upgrade is any indication, the aftermarket is going to have a field day with the latest iteration of the Corvette.

Twin-turbo Ecstasy

With almost thirty years behind it, Hennessey Performance boasts a rich history of insanely engineered vehicles. The company doesn’t discriminate either. A quick glance at their website reveals no preference for any particular automaker. Traditionally, they have been known for their builds focused on American muscle, like the Dodge Viper and Ford Mustang, among other vehicles. That’s to say nothing of their insane GM-centric products. Currently, they offer numerous Camaro builds and upgrade packages to make it even more formidable. One such model, dubbed, The Resurrection, boosts output to 1200 horsepower. It also involves a substantial number of modifications to the LT5 V8.

Coincidentally, 1200 is the exact horsepower of Hennessey’s next big project. Coming soon, the company is slated to offer an upgrade package for the C8 Corvette. Everything is preliminary thus far. Fortunately, they already provided the basics of the kit not too long ago. Essentially, the company will outfit their specialty Corvette with a heavily fortified LT2 engine. In addition to the twin-turbo system, Hennessey will equip their models with forged aluminum connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, and more. Similarly, they’ve promised a fortified variant of the Tremec 8 speed dual-clutch automatic, no doubt so it can properly function with their engine mods. Carbon fiber aero enhancements are also being worked on as well.

More to Come with the C8

While we wait for Hennessey to finish their twin-turbocharged monster, it’s important to note that the Corvette will no doubt get some upgrades from Chevy and other aftermarket companies. Rumors abound as to what Chevy plans to do with future Corvette variants. Apparently, the future ZR1 might feature some type of hybrid powertrain. In addition to boosting off the line performance, it could enable the Chevy to offer an all-wheel-drive system.

Speculation also puts the theoretical powertrain at about 900 horsepower. That’s a considerable upgrade over the base 495 horsepower. Adding another motor to power the front wheels adds a whole bunch of complications though. Weight becomes a major problem area. And it’s likely to bump into the front trunk cargo space. In any event, expect more news about the Corvette becoming an even brighter star than it currently is. We can’t wait!
