Cadillac Looking into Hybrid AWD
Right now, Cadillac is on sort of a roll with performance cars. Between the ATS-V and the brand new CTS-V, it’s all about the horsepower right now.
That said, both use a more traditional means of making power, i.e. forced induction, something that seems to be losing its footing against hybrid systems. Cadillac was one of the last bastions of non-hybrid performance.
However, it seems that they too might head to a hybrid system in the near future as well.
Speaking with Edmunds, Johan de Nysschen, Cadillac’s new chief stated that while the current lineup will most definitely not get a hybrid drivetrain, the next generation could see an electric AWD option.
Nysschen stated that the platforms that are currently in production, or about to be, won’t support something like a retrofitted hybrid AWD system.
That type of introduction needs to be built into the car’s original design, something that wasn’t done to the current lineup.
While I’m thankful that both the ATS-V and CTS-V won’t have the hybrid AWD option for the moment, could this be a good thing for further down the road? Or should they just stick those in the sub performance cars?
