This week’s Dyno Blast video features a Buick Regal that has been painted up to look like a Buick Grand National and rather than the GN’s turbocharged V6, this blacked out Regal packs a twin turbocharged V8.
The title says that it is a 4.8L LS1 and the description says that it came from a junkyard. Considering that the LS1 is 5.7 liters and the owner of this car probably didn’t find a destroked LS1 laying in a junkyard, I am guessing that this 4.8L V8 is the LR4 V8 that came in a variety of GM trucks in SUVs in the late 90s and early 2000s.
We don’t get to see a readout from this dyno run, but the details claim that this twin turbo Buick made 500 rear wheel horsepower with 7 pounds of boost, which isn’t incredible, but 500 rwhp is still very good. Most importantly, the sound of this boosted GM V8 is incredible under hard load, so crank up your speakers and enjoy!
"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s.
