Camaro EL1

Formula Drift driver Travis Reeder will be conducting a set of exhibition runs in the all-electric Camaro EL1 at the inaugural HHVE.

The LS platform is practically tailor made for drifting. The power and low-end torque makes it the perfect dance partner for any Formula Drift driver. But in case you haven’t heard there is this newfangled technology that allows cars to run on electricity. And this new technology is taking over all areas of the automotive landscape. That includes motorsports such as drifting. But can an EV really compete with the tried-and-true engines of the past? Well, we know they can’t compete in the sound and passion department, but they sure can make the power. One of the vehicles that proves this point is the Camaro EL1 developed by Napoleon Motorsports. Now this car is going to get a chance to really show off what it can do at the first ever Holley High Voltage Experience.

At the inaugural HHVE the Camaro EL1 will be in the hands of none other than Formula Drift driver Travis Reeder. The car and driver will be performing a set of exhibition runs in order to display what this car is capable of. And based on the build specs the car should be capable of plenty. Joe Napoleon, owner of Napoleon Motorsports, had his team build this EV beast back in 2018. The car generates 384 kW of power. If that number doesn’t mean anything to you, it is roughly equivalent to 515 horsepower. But what about that sweet low-end torque that make the LS engines so perfect for drifting? Well, the EL1 cranks out over 800 lb-ft of torque. So, yeah, it has the torque covered. It also weights nearly 900 pounds less than a 2021 Camaro ZL1. The EL1 should go like stink.

If you are not familiar with the HHVE, it will be taking place at Sonoma Raceway, in Sonoma, California. The event runs the weekend of November 13 – 14. The event is for fully electric vehicles only. It is open to all vehicles equipped with such powertrains. It does not matter if the vehicle was originally electric or if it has been converted. If it is an EV today, then it is welcome. The event focuses on the performance driving of fully electric vehicles. There will be autocross, drag racing and road course challenges. There will even be a 3S Challenge that LS Fest has helped make so popular.

Holley High Voltage Experience

We hope the LS never goes away, but we have to accept that the EV is the way of the future. The good news is events like HHVE are popping up to show us that an EV can still be a blast in all manner of motorsport related events. The Camaro EL1 will likely put on one hell of a show. It should go a long way towards making us old school gear heads a little bit less afraid of what the future has in store for us. Tickets for HHVE are going to be sold online only. If you happen to be in the area, it is 25 bucks well spent to see what these cars can do firsthand.
