Union members have voted in favor of authorizing a strike at General Motors bowling green plant citing safety issues and working conditions. Roughly 800 UAW members partcipated in the vote; 93% voted in favor of a strike.

According to a local union president Eldon Renaud, concerns about physical safety and product quality control are the main drivers for the cause behind the strike.  “In an unsafe area you might have to go down into a pit or something like that. It’s just the safety procedures that are being followed.” says Renaud.

The plant’s management also released a statement in response to the UAW.  “we pride ourselves in working with our UAW Local 2164 partners to achieve success and build award-winning vehicles. We’re confident that we can work together and have a strong track record of creative problem solving. We’ve built a world-class product at the Bowling Green facility for more than 30 years, with the safety of our employees and quality of the car at the forefront of every decision.”

What’ll this mean for the new ‘Vette? If the Union actually stops work, expect delays and a lot of angry potential Stingray owners .
