Let’s Talk about the 2019 Camaro Design for a Minute

By -

Who called in sick on the day this design was supposed to be finalized?

We know that things don’t always appear as they seem. Cars are usually presented to us initially through a computer screen either through leaked photos, or at a reveal at a car show. With dimensions only presented in a flat format, it’s tough to judge something until you see it in person.

Except the 2019 Camaro.

You may recall (or even be a part of) the crowds of people who thought Ford was very much moving in the wrong direction with the Mustang’s 2018 re-design. Overwhelmingly though, the thoughts on the 2019 Camaro are increasingly negative. Especially with the SS models taking on the industry standard gaping wide open front grille.

Opinions will (and have) run wild already, but to us, the Camaro looks like an artist rendering sketch of a criminal on the loose. It’s close to what it should look like yet at the same time it doesn’t scream Camaro at all. It’s even been called by some as a great looking Honda Accord coupe.

Lower trim models that aren’t an SS will actually have a front bumper, which looks acceptable, but Camaro seems to be a follower of trends with this latest design, rather than coming up with something creative and new. As it stands, the only good angle is from the back 3/4 view.

Could it be that we are just simply resisting change? It’s possible. The C6 to C7 Corvette evolution was a big change for Corvette enthusiasts. Some embraced it, and some were repulsed by it. After a little while though, it has grown on the majority of us. Will the 2019 Camaro do the same? It’s not showing much promise, but only time will tell.
