Torque Converters?????

Default Torque Converters?????

Im Looking to install a Tc into my 1998 TA and i wanted to know what brands to stay away from and which ones are the better ones. Also what type of shift kit are people going with? That trans go seems pouplar.

Im looking to go with a 3500 stall and i plan on spraying 150
Any suggestions. and what will this do to my times??

13.79 @104mph

I would give Yank a call. They have a great series for people running forced induction and nitrous. I have a SS3600 Yank torque converter and I LOVE IT! The converter works great and it pretty much drives like the stock converter. You do have to give it a little more gas from a dead stop, but to me, it isn't THAT bad. You can't go wrong with Yank.

another vote for yank. i have one and it runs great on street or strip. And it doesnt slip a whole lot, the temps stay down real good with my 24k cooler. I have the ss3600

Thanks guys for the help. also what does the STR mean , ive seen numbers like 2:5:1 what is that sht..???

You can find all the info on STR at www.converter.cc (Yank). I think they can better describe it than I can. BTW, I have the SS 4000.

ST Yank 4000 here, 13.515 to 12.533 after the converter and some ET Streets.

A good budget converter is Fuddle and warranty is great. Plus if it isn't the right stall for your setup they will restall it. I just put a 3400 Fuddle stall and 2.1 str. Went from regular 13.2's to 12.696 on a 1.71 60 foot. With a stall, 150 shot you should see about a .5-.6 for stall and around 1 second for the 150 shot, so I'd say low 12's. Depends when you hit the juice and for how long. Seen guys running 12.9's and running 100 shot and hitting 11.9's. Others run 11.6 and with the 100 shot 11.0's. I did have PWM after the converter install and is typical, but a shift kit or tuning will cure it. It makes a sound at lower rpms when the cars computer is trying to smooth out the shift. I don't have any tuning or shift kit yet, just a cooler now.

2000 vette, A4, headers, 3.42 gears and hardened shaft. Yank SS3600 - car creeps at 650 rpm idle. Have Corsa Indy exhaust so it can get loud on take off but when it locks up in Drive it is like stock.

Best: 12.37/111 mph. 60': 1.77
This was at Ubly on 17" BFG's - cord fibers were showing when I got home!! Time for a new set!!

Hmmm why is this in here, you'll get more responses in the auto section. SS3800 here, got it before the 4000 came out. I'll have my new #'s this saturday. The lower the STR, the easier it will be to hook with street tires. Anything over 2.0 and you'll need at least a drag radial.

go at least 3500- maybe even closer to 4000 if you don't drive it every day and want to get the most out of it.

Are you going to run a cam at all if so the bigger the cam the higher the stall if you want to run your 3.42. I have tsp ms3 and a vigilante 4000 with 3.42 runs great wating on track times going sunday

well you have to remember that if your going to use nitrous a big stall will soak up some of the power. I would say get a Fuddle 3800 with a 2.4 str, call John and talk with him, tell him what you are doing and what your trying to get out of the car. He will tell you what has worked best so far for your simular setup. I went from 12.8x and 1.90 60' stock stall/stock internals/LT's CB....to a 12.2 with 1.59 60' with the fuddle 4000 w/ 2.5 str
