Question Insight on my time slip plz!?

Well went to the track Friday night I was pretty pissed at myself. First off there was over 200 cars/bikes there so from 7pm to 11pm I only was able to do 3 runs. Second it was my first time ever at the track and I choked, my first two runs I missed 4th gear (I never do that), I think I may have bent a shift fork. Anyways, my last run I wanted to make sure I got it in gear so I grannyed it to 4th and 5th gear. The weather was about 55 degrees, about 30mph head wind, and 50% humidity. I also wheel hopped really bad through 1st and 2nd on this run only for some reason? I have relocation brackets and tubular LCA w/ poly bushings, and Nitto 555r's. What can I do to stop the wheel hop? Here's my time slip, what do you guys think my problem is? I know my car should be low 12's. Is it the granny shifting in 4th & 5th that hurt it that much ( I think I go into 4th around the 1/8)? 3415lbs w/ me.

If you are going into 5th that is too much gear for that car. Ideally you should end at the top of you 1-1 gear. The 60ft is high also. Some people say that every .10 at the 60ft is worth .15 at the top. Even if you only knocked off an equal amount, you should be able to cut a 1.7 or better, that 3 tenths would have you at a 12.4. The MPH is usually good for about 12.5 or so, so if you expect to get into a low twelve you would have to get your 60ft down or gain some MPH.

With the power you are making, I believe you can break the 11s with different gearing a lower 60'.

i think your gearing is fine. your 60' sucks. you need suspension, a sticky tire, and the ability to shift that thing. with those gears and some suspension, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to 60' somewhere between 1.5 and 1.6 given traction. 398whp would give you a 114-115 trap @ that weight roughly. 1.6 60' + 114 trap speed = high 11 sec pass all day long.

my advice - suspension, tires (and a rear if you're still on the stock 10 bolt), and power shifting = your answer.

Thanks for the replys. What suspension mods would you all recommend? I'm thinkin Hal/Qa1 R shocks and Qa1 springs up front and rear Qa1 drag coilovers. And a torque arm. I'm on Nittos right now, I know there not much of a drag radial but what do people usually 60' with them, (i was at 15psi)? I got the nittos because its my daily driver... Oh and any ideas why it wheel hops so bad?

What size tires? If you have 4.56's and a 26" tire you better be spinning that motor to 7000rpms to make it through the traps in 4th. -Mark

do you have lowering springs in the car? that might be why you wheel hop. I run stock springs in mine when I run at the track..

That's a 26" tall tire. You either need to change gearing down to a 4.10/3.73 or go up to a 28" tire which still may not be enough. Your car is way overgeared. -Mark

I think were goin back next Wednesday. Hopefully the track will be a whole lot less crowded! I may put in a set of 4.11's and hopefully it will keep me in 4th gear through the traps. Also goin to change the pinion angle some, it's still pointed up a bit...

That positive pinion angle is part of your wheel hop problem. You should be around -3 (my preference anyway).
And if you have 4.11's to try, then do it. Going into 5th is hurting your time. The extra shift, and also the fact that overdrive gears draw power. It is probably hurtingyour MPH some. You are overgeared and under-tired depending on how you look at it. Your trap speed and the fact that you were in 5th tells the whole story. With those speeds you should easily be able to stay in 4th.
