Well, I tried several techniques at MIR yesterday, and the best shift point for me was 6000. I can't powershift with the stock clutch, so that may be the difference. I was able to pull a 1.97 60' 12.60 @114 ( new best trap ) yesterday on my 245/40/18 street tires. The track was pretty dusty, and there was a lot of crosswind. All in all, a good time. I made 10 runs.

How much time did you lose by shortshifting and what was the affect on mph? That's a very decent time in those conditions. Great mph. I assume you have full boltons with that kind of mph. Is that an aftermarket wheel or some kind of vette rim? Reason I ask is that the aftermarket wheels are a bit heavier than oem so they tend to slow the car down a little. Not to mention that it's even more difficult to launch on 18s.

I'm sorry I wasn't there to make some passes myself but hopefully next weekend I'll be able to make it down. It doesn't sound like it was too packed if you were able to make that many passes.

what might be interesting is to see where the next gear lands in the rpm spot after a 6000 shift and a 5500 shift. like maybe the 6000 shift lands at 4500, and the 5500 lands at 4100 depending on the gear that might play a role in it also.

I was running 12.90s at 111 when shifting at 5500. I am using a stock 350z touring rim, very heavy. These times were in my 240sx hybrid, stock ls1 from 02 ws6. Only mods on the motor are high flow intake, and street tune. My best trap speed was from pulling my exhaust mid pipe and running straight out of the factory manifolds into a 3" "y" pipe.

If I shifted any higher than 6000, it made shifting harder. My clutch started giving up towards the end of the day.

damn that thing's gonna fly at that raceweight. No reason why you shouldn't run 11s with traction.

yea i had it at 6100, 5500, then i found the sweet spot at 5850, ill shift first right on the money and stroke out second and third for a second then shift usually shifts at about 6k even. my car only ever sees those rpms if im at the track lol

I was able to experiment with different shift points yesterday and found 5800 to be optimum for my combination. 2500 was the best launch rpm for me and I found that a 5500 rpm 1-2 shortshift worked very well.

I have heard short shifting in the 1:1 ratio gear would probably help et. I have not tried it yet but im curious to see if anybody else has. That would be short shifting 3rd gear for us and having more time in 4th. Has anybody tried this??

Which part? 4th is our 1:1 ratio and if you shift early from 3rd you will have more time in 4th..

I have found that shifting to 4th early really didn't have much of an affect on my et or trap speed.

Dave, does that mean a tenth slower.. A tenth isn't much, just a car length and 1-2 mph lol. J/k you guys are having fun and that's what counts. I might have to try short shifting my next ride to keep the transmission pressure down enough where I can speed shift it. By 3500 rpm it's making modest hp. Dave can't wait to meet up again so you can tell me I need to hook the Camaro up a bit better.

Interesting thread, my light is set at 5800rpm, usually shift at about 6000. I have tried shifting at lower rpm but hurts et and mph, due to stock 3.42 gears? I need 4.10's!!!
