Thank You!

I appreciate this greatly. And any others you may have or find! As a GM Parts salesman if amazes me the utter lack of info available to me and so I try to find as much GM "performance" info as possible.

Again, much thanks, jrp!

Using the formula from this thread ID-ED/4-LSA*2=OL with this information, 199.1+210.1/4-119.6 I get -34.6 for the overlap. The cam pro shows -35.1 for the overlap. Although the numbers are close, I'm wondering if I missed something when I put the numbers in the formula?

No.

Whenever you put a cam on a 'Cam Pro' or 'Cam Doctor' you'll get to see how the cam is always slightly off from what the advertised specs are. Every cam company does their best to minimize these differences, and their are tolerances setup for quality control purposes.

Finally! Now I can calculate the exact dynamic compression of my motor...at least if my '00 cam is the same as the '98 cam (should be).

According to J-Rod's calculator, the dynamic compression of a stock LS1 long block with a stock cam is 6.977. Hmmmm...

Let's just call the stock dynamic compression 7.0 even. I'm going to compare this to some other cam-only setups. Remind me again, what's the ideal dynamic compression for our motors?

Just for grins, I plugged in the specs of my favorite cam-only setup with stock manifolds: Cam Motion 217/225 .588/.588 113LSA, 115ICL. Got 7.76:1 dynamic compression. That's a step in the right direction. I wonder what the dynamic compression is on the '01-02 F-body cam and the '02-04 LS6 cam in a stock LS1. Anyone have the valve timing events for those cams? Good thread BTW Jerami.

Trying to figure out what I'm missing, or, in otherwords, how is the Cam Pro coming up with the overlap figure? I used the specs on the cam pro sheet, and when I crunch the numbers, I end up with an overlap 0.5* less than what is on the cam pro sheet.

Is the cam pro data calculated or measured? I assume it's measured. So assuming it's measured, what other characteristics of the cam lobes are effecting the overlap?

That I'm actually not sure about. Perhaps one of the cam guys can clear this up for us.

JRP - what formula did you use to figure you DCR? I just calculated mine using a program I found on the internet and came up with 10.8:1 SCR and 9.6:1 DCR.... Seems a bit high to me.

The numbers listed are at 0.004" valve lift. Most published numbers are 0.006" vavle lift. Even with that change the DCR will change a bit but not too much.

Patrick G, which numbers did you use?

JRP.... Do you have any detontation problems with that high of DCR in your motor?
