Default gm9-aux install

i just got the gm9-aux and am going to hook it up as soon as i get home from work, but i was wondering what i need to do so that i dont end up activating the theftlock. I know that if power is removed from the radio, it will activate it, so that rules out both disconnecting the battery and disconnecting the plug from the back of the radio. Is it safe to plug in the gm9-aux without disconnecting power to the radio? Thanks

No need to disconnect power from the radio.

Rough steps:
* Remove the trim bezel
* Unbolt the radio and pull it forward
* Diconnect the CD-Changer wire from the back of the radio
* Connect the GM9-AUX into the CD-Changer port on the back of the radio
and plug the disconnected CD-Changer wire into the GM9-AUX
* Connect the RCA cable (leading from the AUX device) into the GM9-AUX
* Tuck everyting back
* Push the radio back in place and bolt it back in
* Re-Install the trim bezel

Besides, the TheftLock feature doesn't do anything unless you have previously activated it. If you have activated it then all you have to do is enter your code when you restore power. If you haven't activated it then nothing will happen - your radio will work normally when you restore power. You can tell if it's activated by the red LED on the radio face that flashes when you turn off the car with the TheftLock activated.

Stupid question, but how do you activate theftlock on the stock head unit? I've been searching for an answer, but couldn't come up with one...

From your owner's manual:

Activating the Theft-Deterrent Feature

The instructions which follow explain how to enter your secret code to activate the THEFTLOCK system. It is recommended that you read through all nine steps before starting the procedure.

If you allow more than 15 seconds to elapse between any steps, the radio automatically reverts to time and you must start the procedure over at Step 4.

1. Write down any three or four-digit number from 000 to 1999 and keep it in a safe place separate from the vehicle.

2. Turn the ignition to ACC or RUN.

3. Turn the radio off.

4. Press the 1 and 4 buttons together. Hold them down until --- shows on the display. Next you will use the secret code number which you have written down.

5. Press MIN and 000 will appear on the display.

6. Press MIN again to make the last two digits agree with your code.

7. Press HR to make the first one or two digits agree with your code.

8. Press AM-FM after you have confirmed that the code matches the secret code you have written down. The display will show REP to let you know that you need to repeat Steps 5 through 7 to confirm your secret code.

9. Press AM-FM and this time the display will show SEC to let you know that your radio is secure. Note that with the ignition off, the THEFTLOCK LED indicator will flash, indicating a secured radio.

Thanks for the info. I don't have an owner's manual, so I look it up anything I need on this board.

Do you need to have the cd canger for the GM9-aux to work? Would the GM9-aux work in a 2001 monsoon car that didnt come with the changer?

Yes, it will work if you can find it. All Monsoon head units came with the CD changer port on the back even if there was no changer installed. In fact, the wiring harness for the changer is also pre-installed (you can find the end of it taped to the speaker wires under the left trim panel in the hatch area).

The GM9-AUX seems to have been replaced by a new model called the Aux2Car interface. It will work without a CD changer as well. This is different from the similar adapters made by PAC which require the changer in order to work.

Where did all you guys with the PIE piece get it? I haven't found it for less than $65 bucks. I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone has a hookup or a good place they could send me to get it.

I want to install my new mp3 player in the car ASAP.
