setting torque arm angles? *pics*
I have installed a Spohn tunnel mount torque arm and here is what it's reading. i have no noises or knocking except for the usual. not so loud just a tiny thump between gears. but it feels way better off the tranny as you can even feel the shifter doesnt jerk like it used to. but i just want opions as to what the angles should be

yes its for the spohn adjustable tunnel mount... i just want to know if i should adjust it. i had to go back and forth and back and forth till i got rear end just right having the 18x10.5 in the rears gotta make it just right no banging issues or anything

Are you putting in an Edelbrock torque arm. I have one on my TA, but this is the second time the bolt has snapped in half where it is screwed into the tranny with the bushing and the bracket. DO you think it has anything to do with the angle it is set at, or just a bad install.

you've got 0* pinion angle. You'll want to leave it like that for daily driving. If you do lots of hard launches, you'll want to make sure that the torque motion of the axle doesnt cause your angle to go positive and bind up the driveline under hard accel. Just having a beefier torque arm than stock helps this a lot, setting it a degree or two negative means you'll probably come close to 0 on hard accel. For most adjustable t/arm users, this is a fair trade between launch durability and daily driver wear.

cool I dint have to mess with it to set it. this is my daily driver too. i wonder what it was before i put it on. i did not measure it before installing but im sure it was on the positive side since i lowered the car.

When I originally installed mine I called Spohn and asked about pinion angle and he told me a little negative on the street was OK, so I set it up with 1/2 a degree negative, this was (2) years ago, I check it Saturday and it hasn't changed, U-joints are fine

hey guys. i bought a 01 ss off a board member a month ago. car has a spohn adjustable ta on it,, but all the adjustment nuts are loose. i put 4.10 gears in it. car had minor whine and slight vibration above 50. tightened pinion nut about 1/8 turn and all went to hell. very bad whine that turned into grinding. replaced front and pinion bearings. all back together mild whine. tightened pinion nut again got a hair quieter. 1 day later, decel for light,,pop,, bad whine and real bad grinding. alot of shavings on magnet. front bearing feels bad again..where do i find a degree finder?? can this torque arm be casuing my troubles that fast??any tips on what else could be my problem?? gettin upset with tearin this damn thing apart 3 times now in past week. where do i find a degree finder or will autozone have 1 for me to rent?? thanks guys

I have the same Spohn adj TA that mounts to the cross brace and I run -2 degree on the street when daliy driving and have had 0 problems. Not seen any excess wear either.

all that subtracting business is what screws everyone up... the guage is numbered in quarters which is fine for most jobs. I wish they would number it with 360 additionally for pinion angle finding. Notice how it numbers up from 0 in both directions without any indication of positive or negative this is what throws everyone off because they either try to go with absolute values or completely blow it on the sign.
you're better off to think of that angle there as say... 89* (almost 90*... follow?)... so you've got 89* and 89*... the difference between those is what...? 0... thus you have a 0* pinion angle.
(only read further if you want a non 0* pinion angle)
If you had 88* and 90*... the difference would then be 2* BUT... this still doesnt solve the problem of whether the pinion angle is 2* negative or positive, this is why i say its best to start at 0* and look and see which way goes up and which goes down, then adjust down until the difference is what you want.
Post this again just cuz....
Remember, the angle of a straight line is 180*

right on.. the idea is that when you launch hard suspension is going to give some... so your axle is going to torque oposite the direction the wheels are going (up when going forward, down when going backwards) so when you point it down a degree or 2, it comes up to 0 under launch so nothing binds/breaks during that moment of peak force. I set mine to 0 since i don't have sticky tires and dont have enough power to break anything if i did.
