Default Any GM Techs in here?

I have a non ls1 question. I'm actually pulling the remainder of my hair out trying to track down this electrical gremlin. I have a friend that has a 94 buick regal GS that has like 40k mi on it the car is like brand new.

The problem is the brake lights do not work when the pedal is pushed. The 3rd light comes on and all of the tail lights like up when the headlights are on but do not activate the brake lights when depressing the pedal.

I have looked at everything switches, fuses, relays, liightbulbs... i cant seem to track this one down. Does anyone know anything or have any tips or advise they can offer me? Is there an additional relay under the dash that im missing or something?

Well I'm glad you included that you third brake light works because that tells me your brake switch is working correctly. Your problem is your turn signal cam in the steering column. Had the same problem in my 96 olds cutlass. The brake lights run thru it. I am a 5 year gm tech and my buddy a 23 year gm tech is the one who told me about my car.

Thanks for responding! Replacing the turn signal cam doesn't sound like a fun job. I remember replacing something like that on my 3rd gen ta. Is there any way to test if thats it or not?

I'm not going to elaborate on your setup, but I replaced the turn signal assembly switch (sounds the same) in my 94 camaro for the same problem you had.

I simply tested the lines coming out of the brake switch. My 3rd light was getting signal, but the side lights weren't. Then I jumpered over the brake switch for the side lights and still nothing. The only thing upstream (I speak process flow) was the turn signal assembly switch.

Mine was easy to replace, I hope yours is as well.

it's not bad at all actually. all you need are a steering wheel puller and snap ring pliers.

+1. And some tape and mechanics wire to pull the new one through.
